One Lakes Edge is a sophisticated mixed-use mid-rise apartment development targeting residents seeking an urban lifestyle. Central to the design concept for the project was the idea of creating a walkable urban village environment to simplify the residents’ lifestyle and lessen their dependence on the automobile. The 390-unit apartment project is an eight-story mid rise building positioned on the edge of beautiful Lake Woodlands and is part of a 60-acre mixed-use development. One Lakes Edge integrates live, work and play activities into the project and capitalizes on the adjacent development which includes eight lakefront restaurants surrounding a waterfront plaza, an outdoor event venue, 120,000 square feet of additional retail, a Whole Foods Market, a hotel and multiple office buildings, all within a short five-minute walk. One Lakes Edge is the residential anchor for the development, creating a hub for 24/7 activity that is supported by over 23,000 square feet of retail within One Lakes Edge. The eight-story project sits at the edge of the lake, providing spectacular views of the water and offering recreational access to the lake. Over 200 miles of hike and bike trails are integrated into the project design, along with kayak and bike storage for the residents.
The architectural expression of the project is modern with an edge, portraying a vibrant and energetic vibe fused with an urban sensibility. Utilizing a fresh design vocabulary with a combination of glass, zinc panels and masonry with crisp detailing, the architecture is appealing to the sophisticated renter who appreciates a well-crafted building. Great care was taken at the street level to provide a comfortable human scale by weaving together large and small-scale paving patterns at the public realm to create interest and reinforce the pedestrian environment. Careful attention was given to the indoor-outdoor connection of the building to its site. The introduction of large-scale public art, benches, street furniture and landscape edges to create gathering spaces work together to enhance the feeling of a highly social community with a true sense of place. Transparent glass at the retail storefronts and the public lobby areas make for an active street scene that differentiates the residences from the retail and energizes the public realm.
Internally, the design of the project centers around a luxurious two-story entertainment area that opens up to an elevated terrace overlooking the lake. Special attention was given to create a sizable, open landscaped pool deck above the parking garage, which is more generously appointed with amenities than most multifamily developments. This elevated amenity deck covers 20,000 square feet, with an infinity-edge pool, giant palm planter boxes, covered cabanas and a large, shaded grilling area, creating resort-style luxury for the urban dweller.
