Jamaica Houses of Parliament

Kingston, Jamaica

In April 2018, The Government of Jamaica, through the Urban Development Corporation (UCD), announced a design competition for the New Houses of Parliament to be located on 11.4 acres in the center of the National Heroes Park, Kingston. In September, five teams were shortlisted to continue developing their concept, and in March 2019, the finalist, ‘OUT OF MANY ONE PEOPLE’, Evan Williams (Design Collaborative Ltd.), Christopher Bent (Ziegler Cooper Architects – Houston), Damian Hines (Hines Architecture + Design) and Gregory Lake (Specified Interiors – Houston) was announced the Peoples’ Choice and Jury’s First Place Winner.

The UDC expanded the project scope to include landscaping of the surrounding 40 acre National Heroes Park and as of September 2019, the final project team was selected and the project kicked off. The Honorary Prime Minister declared this the “MOST IMPORTANT BUILDING IN THE NATION’S HISTORY”.
