Apache Corporation, an oil and gas and exploration company requested Ziegler Cooper’s services to design a café that would serve as a gathering space for employees, whose offices occupy two buildings of the Post Oak Central development in the Uptown/Galleria area of Houston, Texas. Along with creating a community space for employees the café would serve also to unify the two buildings that make up Apache’s headquarters. The space chosen for the café is located in the retail center on the campus and is tied to the main employee parking garage and newly-completed connector. The design of the café is warm and open, with wood wall and ceiling accents and floating pendant light fixtures above the main dining area. Special dining areas were created to accommodate different dining preferences and give variety and flexibility to the employees using the space. Wood and warm lighting are also important elements that were brought into the servery. Low walls and windows with varying opacities help to connect the servery and the dining space.
