The Kinkaid School
Houston, TX
Kinkaid is a private school serving grades Pre-K through 12. Ziegler Cooper developed a master plan for the campus and studied ways to give the school a new image and update the 50 year-old building housing the existing lower school classrooms. A scheme was developed that introduced a traditional architectural vocabulary, such as sloped roofs and an arched colonnade, without creating a radical departure from the existing flat-roofed buildings. It was also determined that a brand new lower school would best serve Kinkaid´s needs since this would allow the school to increase the square foot to student ratio in the classrooms, update the building for new technology, comply with accessibility codes and add new functions to the facility such as a gym-cafeteria dedicated to the lower school students.
