Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Conroe, TX
Ziegler Cooper’s Worship, Education and Community Architecture team began working with Sacred Heart on its existing campus several years ago with the renovation of the school auditorium and a new St Vincent DePaul (food pantry) building.
In 2017, the church celebrated its 100th anniversary by breaking ground for its new, 31,000 square foot worship facility. The design for the main worship includes a full-emersion Baptistery beneath a central dome surrounded by high-volume wood ceiling and roof structure. A radius layout provides seating for 1600 and an additional 50 at the choir.
A connected day chapel, seating 200, is designed to resemble Sacred Heart’s original church building. Thoughtful use of stained wood trim and accents, and tile and stone flooring, complete a design palette that enhances the liturgical points of focus with noble simplicity and elegance.
Support spaces include a shop for the sale of religious items, restrooms, choir rehearsal spaces, art and environment space adjacent to the sacristy, as well as work and clergy sacristies, rooms for ministry and altar servers, reconciliation rooms, as well as a small office space.
